shadow boxes

a grade school class at the Lycee Francais here in Chicago cut out individual animals.  Most were fantastical.  My job was to create an animal vortex in a shadow box.

silhouettes, glitter and small things (a school project)

glitter galaxy

More images to come of all the finished projects.
These will be for sale this coming Saturday at the Lycee Francais school fundraiser.  For each project an individual class agreed on a concept and contributed to part of the making.  We did our best to put all the pieces together as close to the original idea as possible, with our own little additions and finesse.  My main contribution was silhouettes and bringing the puzzle pieces (core concept, student work & our work) together.

just because

I love globes.  I love maps.

Cartography is beautiful.
From ancient maps depicting monsters roaming the high seas to the jutting edges of the continents and over the land from end to end.

I found these globes at the Antique Market in Kansas City near the River Market.

Pretty fab.

A handmade gift for my nephew!  It might be slightly premature but I'm sure he will put it to good use one day.  Eventually... when he can hold a piece of chalk in his tiny hand.
The stencil letters came from an antique store in Kansas City, MO

Happy holidays!
