Kyra
In 2005, Kyra received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she began working for the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. She has participated in shows at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, Happy Dog, Marwen and several other local arts event spaces across the midwest. From 2008 to 2011 she lived in St. Louis, MO where she worked for several different printshops: Tom Huck’s Evil Prints, Island Press at WashU, Pele Prints, St. Louis Artist Guild printshop, and Joan Hall’s studio. She now lives in Chicago working as a teaching artist for Chicago Arts in Public Education (CAPE) at a Chicago Public School teaching a before school visual arts class utilizing the arts to promote literacy. Her studio is currently located in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.

Artsist Statement

For me function and beauty have always gone hand in hand. The beauty is in the making of the object, the shirt on your back, the plate you eat from, even the mode of conveyance in which you choose to travel. In modern society we have neglected the beauty aspect by mass producing objects and allowing the general public to be blissfully ignorant from production to waste.
As the wide-ranging physical impact of this ignorance continues to show up in our daily lives I aim to demonstrate the simple beauty of everyday objects and the impact that the change form ignorance can achieve.
